In our 10th season! the Berks Summer Stings Institute simply exists to provide an opportunity for students in Berks county Pennsylvania to continue playing and learning about their orchestral sting instrument over the summer. It is hoped that we can continue offering it at no cost to the participants. It is taught by local music educators and current music education students. It is not meant to begin new string students, but to enrich and maintain skills and knowledge learned from previous instruction from school, private instruction or a combination.
We meet 6 evenings through the summer break from 6:00 – 9PM at the Governor Mifflin Intermediate School. On the final evening, we tune and each of the ensembles will perform our 5 – 7 string works for our families, friends and the community in an outdoor concert at 7:00PM lasting for about 50 minutes.
If you or your child lives in Berks County, has studied an orchestral string instrument for about a year to 8 years (we do allow older students too), have access to an instrument, know how to hold a bow and some basic music reading skills … we would love to have you this summer!
